Suite Dreams

2022 is off to a roaring start for the Griffin Houghton team. We have a bunch of exciting projects in the works but today we thought we would share a project we completed late in 2021.

As the pandemic drags on and we continue to spend more time at home, we've seen an increase in the desire to create spaces of sanctuary. The bedroom has always been a place of refuge, but now more than ever.

Principal Designer, Stephanie Houghton, was approached to create a serene bedroom in a Don Mills Mid-Century split-level home. Our clients, a busy couple with 2 children and a puppy, were looking for a space to relax and catch up at the end of the day, away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the house.

The original architecture of the room set the tone for the space and our design choices. We opted for custom valances that we painted the colour of the walls to blend in so that we could focus on the beautiful, vaulted ceilings and wood beams without any visual distractions of drapery rods.
A seating area was created between the end of the bed and the walk-in closet. Featuring a feather down cushioned loveseat, the area also includes modular coffee tables and a cosy bouclé swivel chair. It's the perfect spot for our clients to connect with each other at the beginning or end of the day. It's also a great spot to curl up with a good book or tackle the weekend crossword

As always, we wanted the room to feel warm and cosy with lots of layers and textures. Custom hand-blocked John Robshaw drapes directed the palette of creams, caramels, sunny yellow, gold, soft grays and taupes. The result is pretty dreamy, if we do say so ourselves.
