AN UPDATED KITCHEN MADE TIMELESS
When homeowners Lisa and Andrew wanted to update their Rosedale kitchen, we were excited to help them as they have always been terrific clients of ours. Their previous kitchen had a good amount of wear and tear from three young kids and their dog Bryce, so we started from scratch and took the opportunity to re-imagine the layout while we were at it.
Lisa really wanted a white oak kitchen, so we designed something that felt current but classically-inspired with transitional details to suit their historical home.
After some layout changes, which helped with the flow of the kitchen, we added in timeless wood windows by Ridley and installed white oak herringbone floors throughout the entire main floor to create a beautiful canvas.
One of the debates we had was whether or not we needed pendant lights above the island in addition to the discreet pot lights in the kitchen. With the new windows in place, we loved the idea of looking expansively past the island to the views beyond, so we chose not to do them. We did, however, install beautiful wall sconces and added a vintage table lamp in a corner to make the kitchen feel cozy.
It's the details that really make this kitchen sing. We added handmade Zelige tiles that bring a soft texture and warmth to the walls. The knobs, pulls and sink faucets are all unlacquered brass that will age and patina with time. We selected flat-sawn white oak so you can really see the natural grain pattern in the cabinets and then stained them a mid-tone brown that would be in keeping with this classical home and not date the kitchen.
We're so pleased with how this project turned out, and Lisa, Andrew and their whole family are loving their new kitchen. Next up is a three story addition to the home, which we are just tucking into now. Stay Tuned!
